Walter F Ballinger Mentor Farmers Program (MFP)
The Walter F. Ballinger Mentor Farmers Program, on 168 Hummock Pond was established in 2015 in a partnership with the Nantucket Land Bank, and offers a low risk learning environment and affordable land to new growers. The program has successfully been able to incorporate agriculture onto some of the Land Bank's land, previously reserved only for conservation.
We are grateful for the 7+ acres on which we farm under lease from the Nantucket Land Bank.

Sustainable Nantucket’s MFP is designed to increase overall sustainable agricultural production and distribution on the island. SN provides classes, workshops and resources for grower education and seeks to mentor individuals who wish to make a career of farming on Nantucket. Our new farm stand and education building at 168 Hummock Pond Road is where we are “growing new growers”, and offering freshly harvested produce, honey, flowers and artisanal salts throughout the growing season.
